History of CAPIC

CAPIC was started by Professor Stephen Palmer in 1996 and brought together clinicians from a wide variety of disciplines (paediatric, emergency medicine, public health, orthopaedics burn and plastics and elderly care) with academics from Cardiff and Swansea, and local authority and emergency services staff. Since 1998 Professor Ronan Lyons has been the coordinator and CAPIC has received support from the Welsh Assembly Government. This support has allowed CAPIC to develop this website, write a proposed injury prevention strategy for Wales, hold five annual CAPIC conferences and support injury prevention training in the less affluent Communities First areas.
